Rise of the Reaver Queen

Rise Of The Reaver Queen explores an alternative reality in which a bio-virus created by the Ancients spreads out from Reavers' Deep, threatening all human life in the galaxy.

....

It is a dark time for humanity.  No one ever paid much attention to Campbell, a world on the edge of the Great Rift in the Reavers' Deep sector of known space.  Once home to the Order of New Enlightenment, a small enclave of monks who were searching for a path to higher being, the world is now devoid of life.  It is whispered by pure humans that Campbell was the first world to feel the wrath of the Despised Queen.

What is known for certain is that Sister Anna Forgorren was once High Priestess of the Order of New Enlightenment.  It is also known that Sister Anna had a talent for psionics, but what was not well known was the level of her ability.  It is believed that the mis-use of her ability is what lead to Sister Anna's expulsion from the order.

The events that followed the expulsion are now well known to sophants across known space.  The far trader "Daverroff" that picked up Sister Anna from Campbell suffered a mis-jump leaving the system.  Damaged and without manoeuvre controls the Daverroff emerged from Jump Space in the Tharrill system, at the 100 diameter of Tharrill's sister world Anatar.  A small scout ship noted the Daverroff's entry into the system and sent out a warning beacon.  Too late the captain of the scout vessel realised the Daverroff was in an uncontrolled vector into the planet.

Somehow the Daverroff survived the crash landing on Anatar, although most of the crew did not.  With some injuries Sister Anna pulled herself from the wreckage of the ship.  With the other surviving crew members she moved away from the shell of the ship and waiting for rescue...

...and the crew of the scout vessel watched back.  Anatar was a quarantined planet for a reason and the scout crew could only watch and wait for the Red Plague to take the crash survivors.  Within hours the plague started to show in the survivors and in less than 48 hours the crew of the Daverroff were dead, except for Sister Anna.

The scout crew continued to monitor Anna from orbit, two days, a week passed and still no symptoms of the plague showed on Anna.  Could Anna be immune to the plague?  The captain decided to retrieve Anna from the planet's surface and place her under quarantine in one of the abandoned orbital stations used for the original plague victims.  Anna continued to show no signs of the plague.

Little did the captain realise that the next decision he made would unleash hell on the universe.  Anna had changed, and the virus with her.  That was twenty years ago now and the bio-virus, now called the Reavers Plague, has swallowed Reavers' Deep sector.  There is no cure for the virus and the best victims can hope for is a quick death.  Death is preferred to becoming a Reaver...
